The Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans is offering scholarships to combat veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.

It offers a scholarship of up to $1,250 per year for person pursuing a BA/BS degree. You must have a honorable service record and a 2.0 GPA.

Applications for the Horatio Alger Military Veterans Scholarship closed 1 September 2008. Keep checking back periodically in the next few months for the new round to begin.

USAA and the Montana Enlisted Association co-sponsor 2 each $500.00 scholarships each year. Eligible Applicants include current dues-paying members of the Enlisted Association and their dependents.

APPLICATION MUST BE POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN 15 March 2010.

2009 USAA Scholarship Application

Selection Rules:
  1. Scholarship applications must be received or postmarked by the March 15 deadline each year.
  2. Scholarship will be given to each Army and Air, providing qualified applicants exist from each service. If not, two scholarships may be issued to either service or if only one qualified applicant exists, only one scholarship will be given.
  3. Scholarships will be awarded to members or direct family of members who attend or plan to attend any accredited institution of higher education. Any type or level of higher education will be considered for award.
  4. Scholarships will be given as a one time award. Winners will not be considered to receive the award more than once.
  5. The scoring team will consist of two or three educators who have no interest in who scholarships are given to. If it is determined that a member of the scoring team has a conflict of interest with one of the applicants, that team member will not score the application the said applicant.
  6. Scoring will be completed in accordance with the scoring matrix to be provided by the Scholarship Committee Chairperson.
  7. The scoring team will return the scored application materials to the Scholarship Committee Chairperson. The Selection Committee will review the results and award the scholarship(s) by consensus. Scholarship Committee Chairperson will only vote as a tie-breaker.


The Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States has established a CSM Virgil R. Williams Scholarship Program. The following persons are eligible:
  1. EANGUS members
  2. Unmarried sons and daughters of EANGUS members
  3. Spouses of EANGUS members
  4. Unmarried spouses and unmarried dependent sons and daughters of deceased EANGUS members who were in good standing at the time of their death.
Honorary, Associate and Corporate membership alone does not qualify an of the persons listed above in 1 through 4 for eligibility to apply for a scholarship.

EANGUS member applicants, parent or guardian of unmarried sons and daughters who are applicants and members whose spouse is an applicant must have at least one (1) year remaining on his/her enlistment following completion of the school year for which application is submitted, or have served 20 or more years of service.

Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $2,000 for the current school year applications, and appliance must be enrolled as full time students at a college, university, trade or business school. Graduate students are not eligible for scholarships.

Awards will be sent directly to the recipient with each check made payable to the recipient’s choice of school. To receive the awards, verifications will be required to the effect that enrollment has commenced.

There shall be no consideration whatsoever given because of friendship, rank or grade of applicant, applicant’s parents, or applicant’s spouse. Neither shall the applicant’s geographical place of residence be considered. Awards will be made on the basis of scholarship, character, leadership and need.

The CCM Roger K. Larsen Scholarship fund will be made available to the Montana Air and Army National Guard members, their spouse, and their unmarried dependants. In addition to the scholarships awarded to the Air and Army National Guard, a like yearly donation will be made to the Challenge Program, Roger K. Larsen Memorial Fund, initiated by John and Leta Nugent of Butte.
